First Start with some fresh sourdough bread from your local bakery. You may think you want to use french bread but don't, sourdough is an fabulous addition to this recipe. I get mine from Ithaca Bakery. Second very important ingredient is local farm fresh eggs! Be sure to get healthy eggs from healthy chickens that are treated well. Very Important! Now time to start cooking!
Ingredients
- 1/2 a loaf of Sourdough bread
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup non dairy milk (whatever you have)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- a bit of oil for cooking (I use a combo of butter and coconut oil)
Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon together. Heat skillet with a mixture of butter and coconut oil. Dunk bread in egg mixture then pan fry on hot skillet everyone knows this part of french toast.
Now for the toppings! This is can really make a good breakfast into a spectacular brunch! I try to use seasonal fruit when making his dish. I have made it with peaches before but this time I used a pear and an apple! It is so easy to jazz up a meal with small touches like this.
Ingredients
- Fruit of choice
- 1/4 tsp cardamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Sautee fruit in hot pan with spices. That easy!
I personally like to add a small amount of small yogurt as a topping with the fruit. My favorite are Black Pearl sheep yogurt or Ithaca Milk water buffalo plain yogurt.
Pair french toast with a cup of french press coffee and a mimosa for the best brunch you have ever made at home!
Note: Leftovers are also amazing reheated in the toaster for a quick bite before work.
